Growing Australia, the inspiration behind the 2018 Elders Calendar

The Elders Calendar is iconic in households throughout rural and regional Australia. The calendar provides a collection of photography from across the country, gathered together through the annual photo competition.

The theme ‘Growing Australia’ called for entrants to show how their patch of Australia is prospering. A record 3,000 entries were received in this year’s photo competition!

Winning the top spot and featuring on the cover for 2018 is a photo by Lisa Alexander (Blackall, Queensland), titled ‘Leading the Mob’.
Lisa says the photo depicts the role kids play in running a business on the land.

“They learn early and grow up with responsibility from a young age. I am inspired to document daily life on the land, be those everyday jobs, or jobs that are only carried out a couple of times a year,” Lisa says.

Elders Marketing Manager, Kate McLachlan couldn’t believe the attention the calendar competition attracted.

“It’s always a great competition, and we receive so many amazing photos – which makes the judging process very challenging. The 2018 Elders Calendar truly represents the theme of Growing Australia, from horticulture and livestock, through to farming families.

“We hope our clients enjoy the calendar, and we thank everyone that participated in the competition.”
