SA Wool Clip of the Sale 2018

The 2017/2018 wool season saw 1,784,569 bales sold nationally, this is up by approximately 63,500 on last season. Each month Elders recognises a top wool clip judged on style and bloom, presentation and evenness of length. The monthly winners from South Australia were invited to head office in Adelaide where a Supreme winner was announced.

The 2018 Supreme Clip of the Year recognised Richard Harkness from Gumburra Park in Tintinara. The winning clip stood out on the show floor and attracted the buyers’ attention visually and backed up with excellent sale results and six different buyers purchasing the clip.

The awards highlighted the importance of an evenly bred clip and the quality of the work carried out by the workers in the sheds and even the conditions in the sheds themselves, is extremely important. This is what Elders recognises when the awards are judged each week. We look for those clips that would instantly command the wool buyer’s attention and then check to see that this is backed up by the preparation and paper work.
