Multimin Performance Ready Challenge announces 2021 winners

Kicking off in early 2020 and taking place over four individual rounds, over 40 producers have competed in three monthly programs to trial the benefits of Multimin, an injection used to top up trace minerals in sheep and cattle prior to high demand periods.

The highly competitive Challengers, each with their unique stories and learnings, were then narrowed down four prize winners.

  • First place was awarded to Tim Reid, “Melon Pastoral” Roslyn NSW
  • Second place was awarded to Emma Patterson, “Bonnydale Black Simmentals QLD”, Kingarory Qld
  • Third place was awarded to Jodie Solomons “Donovans Dairy” Wye SA
  • People’s Choice Award was won by Brenda King, “Glenfern Grazing Co.” Glenfern Qld

Multimin’s marketing manager, Dr Jerry Liu, said the winners were each selected based on the quality of their treatment program, sharing of their results, collaboration with Virbac technical experts and engagement within the Facebook group.

Taking home a 12-month supply of new Multimin Evolution and an overseas tailored study tour valued at $19,000, the major prize winner in first-place was Tim Reid of ‘Melon Pastoral’ Roslyn, NSW.

Mr Reid recorded interesting insights into weaner management and Multimin’s effect on conception rates, after seeing a lift to 93 per cent.

“What I read from this is that giving Multimin is a must pre joining and the Multimin given at weaning is not only a must for animal health and reduced incidence of disease at weaning but assists with getting the heifers ready for joining” Mr Reid said.

Second-place winner is Emma Patterson from ‘Bonnydale QLD Black Simmentals’ in Kingaroy, Qld, whose primary focus was on fertility and conception within Bonnydale’s embryo transfer and artificial insemination program. Through the use of Multimin, Emma documented a 10pc increase in AI conception and 6pc increase in embryo conception rates. Emma also noted “using Multimin has tightened up our joining and increased our first calf heifer calving percentage. Earlier and more calves equals more dollars, which is what it’s all about!”

Jodie Solomons secured her spot as the third-place winner, hailing from Wye in SA on her property ‘Donovans Dairy’.

Participating in Round Three of the Challenge, Jodie experienced significant health benefits with her dairy calves after treating with Multimin.

“The Multimin group certainly recovered quicker from scours and continued to grow out well compared to those that were not treated. Another benefit of Multimin that I love is, when using it on the calves at birth and then again the week I start weaning them there is a noticeable difference. They seem less stressed at weaning and they just look brighter and healthier” noted Jodie.

Both second and third place winners will take home a six-month supply of Multimin Evolution.

Further to the major prize winners, the national “People’s Choice” winner was chosen by the public through an online voting platform. The People’s Choice winner was Brenda King of ‘Glenfern Grazing Co.’ of Glenfern QLD.

Brenda successfully competed in Round Four of the Challenge and has been a prominent participant on the dedicated Multimin Facebook page. She predominantly found the benefits of Multimin expressed in the health of her stock.

“Our results speak loudly for the benefits of using Multimin at weaning to maintain health and weight gain” she said.

“I have learned so much from other Challenger experiences that have been shared. It’s been an interesting, exciting and educational journey”. Brenda will also receive a six-month supply of Multimin Evolution for this achievement.

The Multimin Performance Ready Challenge has seen incredible support from right across Australia and is an interesting and unique way for livestock producers and those in the industry to learn more and experience first-hand the benefits of animal health and nutrition.

“The results of this challenge will really help us to continue pioneering new research that improves product efficacy and benefits for our local producers” says Jerry.
