Roma represented at Royal Sydney

Elders territory sales manager Justin Higgins is preparing to represent his state and company at the upcoming National Young Auctioneers Competition at the Sydney Royal East Show on 10 April 2014.

Justin qualified for the national competition after being crowned state winner of the ALPA 2013 Young Auctioneers Competition at the EKKA last year.

Justin said he was thrilled to have won the hotly-contested competition against 10 of Queensland’s finest auctioneers, and now has his sights set on a strong performance against the other state and territory winners at the national title.

“It was a tough competition and I am excited to be representing Elders and Queensland at the national event,” Mr Higgins said.

The 25 year-old, who grew up in Glen Innes, NSW, took on a traineeship role with Elders five years ago and has since honed his auctioneering skills in Mitchell and now Roma.

It is his work in the Roma sale yards that Justin believes has allowed him to develop his art of auctioneering and helped give him an edge as he heads towards the national competition.

“Selling twice a week at Roma with the support of very experienced auctioneers has really helped me develop my skills, and made the job a lot easier and more enjoyable for me,” he said,

Roma hub manager Keith Crouch says that Justin has worked very hard to get to this point and deserves the recognition.

“Justin is naturally shy so the incredible effort that he has put in to get to compete at a national level is a credit to him and we wish him all the best,” Mr Crouch said.

“I would definitely recommend the young auctioneers schools to any young people starting out. There is always a wealth of knowledge at these courses, with experts who are happy to help anyone out that looks like they’re having a go. Being able to sell at Brisbane and Sydney is also a real bonus,” he said.

“Elders have always been very supportive in respect to my development, and there are so people in the company with years of experience who are always only too happy to provide support.”

In terms of being a livestock agent, Justin comments that “I really enjoy meeting new people, and you just never know what challenges you will face each day.”

Justin will join Elders colleague and fellow territory sales manager Ryan Sargeant from Elders Yea at the national title at the Sydney Royal Easter Show on 10 April, 2014.

“Ryan and the other state winners are great auctioneers and will be hard competition to beat, but I’m looking forward to the experience more than anything and just giving it my best” Justin said.
