Rural property on the move
Elders Rural Services Tasmanian business continues to grow and is now expanding its rural real estate network with the appointment of Allan Barr as state manager of Rural Real Estate.
Mr Barr will be no stranger to most in rural Tasmania after over 20 years in the Roberts business. He was most recently general manager of a large corporate farm enterprise, with various farming interests across Tasmania, including viticulture, horticulture and a 20,000 head cattle fattening operation in New South Wales and Queensland.
“My approach will be to extract maximum value for my vendors and to ensure buyers understand the opportunities their purchase may realise,” Mr Barr said.
“Many farms are sold on a per hectare basis, whereas its my belief they should be sold on a productivity and potential return on investment.”
The Elders national network will provide Tasmanian vendors with the best possible outcome.
Elders Tasmania state general manager James Cornish, has been looking to grow their rural real estate business in Tasmania.
“There is a real customer need for an alternative national player in the rural real estate market in Tasmania” Mr Cornish said.
He believes that Elders are best placed to leverage their national rural real estate, farm supplies and livestock network to deliver greater opportunity to vendors.
On the back of recent growth, Elders opened a branch in Smithton in January. Mr Barr’s appointment adds to a growing rural real estate team including:
- Bruce Jubb (0417 987 828) at Burnie
- Robert Medwin (0400 554 464) and Crighton Horton (0408 834 652) at Ulverstone

“Elders will continue to invest in and support our clients here in Tasmania. With a 180 year history under our belt, we are proud to be setting the standard for localised knowledge and expertise that clients can trust with any problem, in any season,” Mr Cornish said.
