Seeking Australia’s next generation of rural specialists

Elders is seeking applications for its 2014/2015 traineeship program as part of a long term investment for Elders and for professional agency service in the agricultural industry.

People with a passion for agriculture and rural Australia are encouraged to apply for an Elders traineeship, which provides trainees with an in-depth understanding of stock and station agency and agribusiness as well as a nationally recognised qualification.

Elders national livestock manager, Chris Howie said that the Elders traineeship gives young people the opportunity to forge a career with Elders, and provides the agricultural industry with trained professionals.

“The Elders traineeship program develops a new generation of rural specialists within Australia to support our primary producers, while also helping young people get their foot in the door and start an exciting career in stock and station agency, which can lead to any number of career paths,” Mr Howie said.

“The trainees work with experienced Elders staff across Australia to learn the business of stock and station agency, wool and live export. This includes training across all aspects of livestock marketing, providing farm input advice, livestock production, and understanding and building client relationships,” he said.

“We’re looking for candidates who have completed school and gained rural experience away from home, or have a rural background and are willing to relocate to new areas where they can gain different experience.”

Trainees undergo an 18 month program, where they are placed in various branches and roles around the country, providing a comprehensive exposure to all areas of the business.

On successful completion of the traineeship program, trainees will gain a Certificate 4 in Agriculture, and will be placed in an operational role within the company, where possible.

Applications are open until Friday, 22 August, 2014. More information can be found on the Elders website at www.elders.com.au/traineeships.
