72nd Mountain Calf Sales postponed due to heavy rains

Elders’ 72nd Mountain Calf Sale has been postponed due to the impact of heavy rain and flooding.

The 9,500 cattle booked to be sold next week will now be offered for sale on 10-11 April and will work in conjunction with Elders’ sales at Adelong and Cooma, resulting in a combined yarding of 14,000 head.

Elders Regional Manager James Freemantle said the decision, whilst a difficult one, is necessary and has been made in consultation with the local community and vendors.

“This is the first time in 72 years that the Mountain Calf Sales have been postponed, but the recent weather is unprecedented and is making it difficult for producers to move their stock,” James said.

“We also have a duty to ensure the safety of our staff, clients and customers and of course the health and welfare of the livestock is of utmost importance,” he said.

The 72nd Mountain Calf Sale will now be held over the following dates:

Tuesday, 10 April 2012
11.00am Omeo
2.30pm Benambra

Wednesday, 11 April 2012
11.00am Ensay
2.30pm Omeo
