Elders’ Joe Wilks takes national auctioneering title
Elders Territory Sales Manager Joe Wilks from Wagga Wagga has been named as the winner of the ALPA National Young Auctioneers Competition at the Sydney Royal Easter Show.
Auctioneering has long been a passion for Joe, 24, and despite only having been an auctioneer for the last three and half years, he has quickly impressed.
“I’m finding the key to successful auctioneering is to really interact with all the buyers and keep them involved and interested,” Joe said.
“Livestock has always been a part of my life and it’s great to be able to travel around and work with producers on a daily basis,” he said.
“Being part of Elders is great too because we have such a strong national network of branches with so much experience that I can’t help but learn every day.”
Elders National Livestock Operations Manager Chris Howie says the entire Elders team is proud of Joe’s achievement.
“Elders has a long history of success in state and national auctioneering competitions and Joe’s win is a culmination of investment and training in our young people to ensure the future of the livestock industry is strong,” Mr Howie said.
“It’s a tough livestock market at the moment but we’re working hard to make sure we have the right people on the ground to help our farmers get the most out of their operations,” he said.
“What’s more, I’ve been really impressed with our latest round of livestock trainees and I’m convinced there’s a future young auctioneer in that crop too.”
